Jen and I went to The Olive Garden in Burbank last night, which happened to be really close to one of the fires. Jen was smart, and covered her mouth with her shirt when breathing outside. I, figuring that being brought up in Brooklyn and practically breathing car exhaust every day made me immune to the stuff, didn't. Now my lungs burn from some healthy deep breaths of ash and smoke, and I realize again that I haven't lived in Brooklyn for over 12 years now. On another note, I need to get a new cell phone. My current one has problems where I can't hear anything on it anymore. Makes having a conversation pretty difficult if you don't know what the other person's saying, and the "smile and nod" technique doesn't work on a telephone anywhere near as well as I had hoped it would. On the plus side, it's still under it's 1-year warrantee with Cingular. I spoke to their representatives today, and they're next-business-day mailing me a new one, so I should have it on Monday. Just insert my old SIM card and battery, mail the broken phone back, and voila! New phone. Very convenient. Finally, the creepy kid. In the movie theater the other night (Jen and I went to see The Exorcism of Emily Rose), I saw a real, live possessed child. The cutest little girl you've ever seen, with blond pigtails and a little blue dress and a cherubic face. Her mom said something to her - I forget now what it was - and this angel child suddenly morphed into the girl from The Exorcist. In pretty much the same deep, gravelly voice that you'd expect to hear from someone with a manifestation of Satan inside them, she looked at her mother and growled: I left very, very quickly, to go see the movie about less possessed people.
