We had a very nice Thanksgiving dinner, and the dogs enjoyed the feast immensely. Instead of giving the pooches their usual canned dog food dinner, we served them chopped turkey in their individual bowls and both were quite content. The existence of tryptophan in turkey that makes people sleepy also seems to apply to the dogs, as the two of them passed out afterward for several hours.

Because of my husband’s work schedule, we ate our holiday dinner around one-thirty this afternoon. As luck would have it, every dish came to the table perfectly, including the Ginger Pumpkin Cheesecake. My husband’s homemade stuffing was superb, and the turkey was so tender it practically fell apart as he sliced and diced. By two-thirty, we were done putting away leftovers and cleaning the kitchen.

But, like our babies, the sleep monsters in turkey took over. We all crashed on the bed for almost five hours, awakening at eight-thirty to put on a pot of coffee and watch the tube.

We have enough leftovers for at least a week, but I’m so sated it’s doubtful I’ll touch one morsel until Saturday.
