It is current technology that a chip may be implanted into a pet, which can then be tracked via GPS. If all soldiers in Iraq and Afganistan were to have one of these while incountry, we wouldn't be "looking" for them if they were to be abducted, we would be at their rescue, NOW!

But this has too much common sense to be implemented, I suppose. I couldn't have been the first to think of such an application.

So if we're not using this technology now, why not?
