The subject of this entry is entirely sarcastic, ripped from the very cynical being within. I just LOVE techs who couldn't find their asses with both hands.

[begin rant]
No matter how many times you scan a disk for errors, this will not fix the disk. If the customer is down for a week, they're not going to be happy with "I just ran a disk check and it is reporting bad blocks." Errors don't often fix themselves. When you then come back to the customer with "The backup drive was never formatted correctly when your server was migrated" you're not doing much to instill that much desired customer trust.

If you realize that the backup drive wasn't formatted or mounted correctly, why not just do that? Was it really necessary to provision a whole new box? And if you're going to do that, you may want to let the customer know that you're doing that instead of letting them sit around and play "Let's guess what they're doing to my server now?" because everyone really hates that game, especially because it takes a week to play, and the prizes suck.

Don't use the excuse that you're working on a dedicated server to explain the delay in fixing a shared server, if you're then going to turn around and use the excuse that you're fixing the shared server when someone inquires how progress on the dedicated server is coming along. If you're just sitting around watching the little lights on the monitoring system go red, at least keep your stories straight.

Why have a pager or cell phone if you ignore both?
[end rant]

I'm almost done with my second oil portrait. It's turing out OK. I only have her eyes, some details in her face and shirt to do. The hair turned out great, and it is what I had the most worries about. Working with oils is a very different animal than what I'm used to.

I think airbrush is on my list of things to try next, once I have a bit more practice of oils under my belt. I just wish I had more time to practice.

Well, back to work for now. Joy!
