I'm a web developer for NOVICA. I'm fascinated by languages, even though I only speak English and a little Spanish. I can count in Korean and have numerous language and linguistics books. I'm living within walking distance of CSUN where I share an apartment with my girlfriend and 2 cats. I'm happy. I write sporadically (I really need to finish that short story), with every intention of making a living at it at an undisclosed point in the future. I taught physics at Emperor's College Winter Term 2008. I love games and stories and music and computers and science and "and." I drink my coffee 100% black 80% of the time and 80% black 20% of the time. Also, there are other things. 7332 42 | ||

2003-02-23 2:14 PM Minor Injuries, Venice Beach and Zen As I start this entry, Alice's Restaurant Massacree starts playing on launchcast. It'll probably play during this entire entry as it's 18 min and 34 sec long. It's a delightfully amusing ballad that ends as a war protest song--very timely.
Minor InjuriesYesterday during the board breaking section of the Tae Soo Do® testing, I held a board for the first time. The front kick was delivered with enough force to break the board, if it had landed at the center of the board instead of my finger. The middle finger of my left hand is now about twice the size of its right hand counterpart... Venice Beach and ZenI walked down to the beach this morning, and luckily I brought along a small reporter's notebook to jot down some observations: I walked by twin 6 year old asian girls that were carrying pads similar to mine. They were absentmidedly doodling. I glanced at the drawings. They were both drawing the exact same abstract design. Sitting in front of the basketball courts was a bearded fellow. Laid out in front of him were tweleve sharpened number 2 pencils. With the 13th pencil, he sketched in a notebook. I looked over his shoulder and realized that he was reproducing a tax form of some sort by hand. Someone through a an unripe lemon at a lady selling stained glass light bulbs. Two middle aged men take a break from basketball and discuss the finer points of dog sledding. At Small World Books, I bought 2 books: Diamond, by Matthew Hart and Zen in the ARt of Archery, by Eugen Herrigel. A young homeless man complimented my leather jacket, and I said, "Thanks." A young girl and her british grandmother discuss the pronunciation of water in front of the 'Borg Cube Fountain' house. Diamond brings to mind reading Snowblind: A Brief Career in the Cocaine Trade . I practiced my forms on the beach. White, Orange and yellow are smooth. Green I know, but haven't internallized. The last stretch of Green and all of blue need review. I didn't attempt brown and red. I knew enough of 1/2 black to practice most of it. Something was being filmed about 15 yards north of me on the beach. Three bikini clad women sit and discuss something in front of the camera. While reading the first chapter of Zen in the Art of Archery I glanced around and saw surfers, sailboats and soccer. Then I walked back to my car.
