I'm a web developer for NOVICA. I'm fascinated by languages, even though I only speak English and a little Spanish. I can count in Korean and have numerous language and linguistics books. I'm living within walking distance of CSUN where I share an apartment with my girlfriend and 2 cats. I'm happy. I write sporadically (I really need to finish that short story), with every intention of making a living at it at an undisclosed point in the future. I taught physics at Emperor's College Winter Term 2008. I love games and stories and music and computers and science and "and." I drink my coffee 100% black 80% of the time and 80% black 20% of the time. Also, there are other things. 7332 42

Hominids

I just finished a book. I had just finished reading an early chapter of Hominids by Robert J. Sawyer, when I came across a journal entry that got me thinking. Sawyer uses the rape of one of the main characters as a motivation for the marjority of her actions over the course of the novel. I've never actully spent much time thinking about rape, but it was in the front of my mind as I read Hominids.

I keep thinking of the Friends episode where Joey learns that "not all tailors measure your inseam that way." That, and the movie Irréversible. There is something about sexual abuse that never leaves a person. I've never had to deal with this personally, so it's definately something that I'll have to think about more.

Of course, the other reason for writing this entry was to mention that I finished reading Hominids. Next up: The Years of Rice and Salt, by Kim Stanley Robinson.

listening to: Bif Naked, Nerf Herder and Darling Violetta. Yes, I do have Buffy on the brain.
