I'm a web developer for NOVICA. I'm fascinated by languages, even though I only speak English and a little Spanish. I can count in Korean and have numerous language and linguistics books. I'm living within walking distance of CSUN where I share an apartment with my girlfriend and 2 cats. I'm happy. I write sporadically (I really need to finish that short story), with every intention of making a living at it at an undisclosed point in the future. I taught physics at Emperor's College Winter Term 2008. I love games and stories and music and computers and science and "and." I drink my coffee 100% black 80% of the time and 80% black 20% of the time. Also, there are other things. 7332 42

Factoring Humanity

I'm about to finish reading Robert J. Sawyer's Factoring Humanity. I've read his most recent Neanderthal Trilogy, and I randomly picked up this book, written in 1998 at a used bookstore. It's neat to see ideas that I was reading about at the time it was published, like quantum computing mixed with ideas from things that interest me, like his references to Penrose's The Emperor's New Mind, Noam Chomsky, and tesseracts. And of course the were references to Neanderthals and quantum computers foreshadows the more recent books of his I've read.

Above it all, I find the concept of the Four Dimensional Overmind delightful, considering my fascination with Redwood trees, and the idea that a forest of ancient trees can actually be a single organism.

I really like how Sawyer grounds his Science Fiction by making one of the major subplots be about a very personal human issue. Now to finish reading.

Listening to Hot Fuss by The Killers and a playlist that focuses on Muse,Modest Mouse,Morrissey, and other bands I've been introduced to over the last year or so. Not all start with M.
