Muse on Beauty

There is no beauty than that which is given. Hence the phrase "beauty is in the eye of the beholder".

Yet there are some things that are agreed to be beautiful. Hence the beauty pageants, art galleries, eco-tourism, movie stars.

Where then comes the appreciation of beauty? How does the beholder decide whether to call something beautiful?

I put it to you that it is the memory of a perfect world, a perfect face that bids the beholder to make such a judgement.

What then would the perfect world be? Whose would be the perfect face?

Would it not be the world before the Fall? and the perfect Face after which we all are modelled?

How could evolution effect such selection as to result in this appreciation?
