2008-07-10 9:22 PM no longer in transit Read/Post Comments (4) |
there's so much i'm gonna miss about the job i've been having for the past 6.5months. the longest i've ever worked was what, two weeks? never thought i'd really last this long.
i remember it begun with me feeling ultra freaked out that i was constantly being located at different terminal SVCs (singapore visitor centre), and i had a problem trying to remember which was which, and where the atms, toilets, money changers, left baggage, etc were in each terminal. it was not easy. but slowly i got accustomed to it and i enjoyed the perks of being in transit (ie, toilets and water coolers are within 50m from the desk...few locals...variety of shops...) it was just cool. i mean, i've always been in love with the airport and seige and i used to dream about what we would do if we had a flight to catch. to be able to tap my card, tap my finger on the patch, and get access into the restricted area had a sort of novelty. then i got really comfortable with the job. i could remember places, remember prices, opening hours, flight numbers, flight departure timings, etc. i could strike up conversations with tourists when i have to take them to another terminal. i knew where the brochures i needed were. i was so comfortable i could leave my mark anywhere i wished. i could do whatever i want. people were comfortable with leaving me alone at (certain) counters. i mean well, everything comes with good and bad things really. so the great distinct things i could remember was serving a group of 4 japanese tourists who were probably around my age. they were struggling with severely limited english vocabulary, but they were incredibly polite and jumped with excitement at everything i mentioned. when they didn't understand, i searched up pictures and they would do actions to explain what they wanted to tell me and it was hilarious. they were my favourite ever. they made me so happy i was doing my job and i just glowed when the counter echoed their thunderous laughter. so memorable. :) many great memories that made me smile or laugh. great watching the tourists in awe of our new terminal, or of the many facilities we had in our huge airport on our tiny island. as uncle john said, 707square kilometres, with 77% chinese, 14%malays, 7% indians and 2% others. HAHA and that you could put 60 of singapore into switzerland. of course the colleagues played a big part in making the job a torture or a fun day. :p many things i'd remember about the people i've worked with! some of them have hilarious laughter, some have craziest superstitions, some are incredibly slow, some are chatterboxes. and some just hate each other. HAHA. still. :)) they were grrreat! sigh. i think i'm gonna miss the job big time. :( i guess what really made me like this job was that, simply, there was a lot of first-times with this job. always something new! hope i get a job that gives me that too next time... some pictures taken during work. (yesterday and today) seokming, jean, xingying, me, mazlan chenliang (he taught me chinese idioms LOL) errrm. huiqi louis! ida alice warren lily sheila michelle huixian, mr lim, me, ida they look similar. HAHA. huixian, me, rongxin hitesh. yes he's actually standing on the ground. first time working with him but i was just amazed at the height difference. tanny me, ida, ida. HAHA. ida tan and nur hidayah. saadiah also, i don't think it hit me that we're splitting ways when coming into this job meant meeting ida, rongxin, audrey, brenda, fiona... slowly it's down to two. and now it just struck me that i won't see them (except audrey) in school anymore. it's just really really really sad. apart from rongxin, all of us were from tkgs, so it's really strange knowing we're splitting up now. and rongxin, i SO should've known her from jc, but i didn't. roarr. they're the besttt. :)) other random pics taken today.. horrrr facebook! NOT.MY.IDEA. ida was just disturbing while i was answering calls. LOL the infamous breakfast place :) mr lim's favourite thing to shift EVERY SINGLE TIME. our favourite chocolate place where we walk straight to the 50% off portion. HAHAHHAA this is the part where tourists would admire the surroundings that they actually can see outside the airport and i'm proud of it! and this is just a random part where i realised was new and had a band playing while ida and i were shopping in the transit mall - looks so much like christmas!! (and i bought a jacket and foundation. yayy i just checked my make up bag. so now i've loreal foundation and blush, and clarins gloss and mascara, and maybelline eye shadow. HAHA.) sigh, no more cabs to work, no more finger-tap in and out, no more attendance book, no more must-read file, no more serving crappy tourists, no more chatting up nice tourists, no more transit access, no more staff price. *cry* that's...all...folks :( byebye svc.
