For as long as I can remember there's been a cultural meme which equates inhabitants small towns / 'rural America' with all that is Christian (and good) while equating inhabitants of cities with all that is non-Christian (evil). It's my recollection that this meme gained currency in our political culture about 10 years ago when the Republicans began using it as a cudgel against their Democratic opponents. While I'm sure that folks who believe this meme to be 'true' will discount the following I offer them as examples of the dangers of seeing the 'Truth' as something black & white...
