LtoE: Let's Grow Up Austin

To the Editors,

Returning from Corpus Christi Tuesday evening, having traveled over 700 miles, I ran into traffic Tuesday night due to I-35 and access road lane closures over Cesar Chavez and thus submit some ideas for improvement of traffic flow management.

1. Direct some portion of I-35 traffic e.g. right lane to access road.

2. Coordinate with the Signals Department to temporarily reprogram lights to give greater time to access roads.

3. Synchronize the lights to prevent stopping at each red.

I realize that the later especially goes against the "Keep Austin Weird" tradition but perhaps it's time that it should sometimes be trumped by "Keep Austin Moving" - an I-35 parking lot of idling cars and trucks is not very green.
