Plain Banter . . . lies about science fiction, and everything else. When the writer becomes the center of his attention, he becomes a nudnik. And a nudnik who believes he's profound is even worse than just a plain nudnik. -- Isaac Bashevis Singer |

2004-07-21 2:33 PM Movies I've seen this summer (so far)... Shrek 2 *** Perhaps lacking some of the originality of its predecessor, but still funny enough to satisfy.
The Terminal ** Good, but minor, Spielberg. Very reminiscent, in a way, of another Spielberg-Hanks film: Cast Away. This time Hanks is cast adrift in a busy airport terminal. Catherine Zeta Jones' role is superfluous; the real co-star is the terminal itself, which was studio-built just for this film (not done on location in an actual terminal). Saved *** Funny little film centering on some over-the-top (or are they?) religious-right happenings in a Christian high school. Recommended. Spiderman 2 *** A bit better than the first one, but mostly the same. If you liked that, you'll like this. Fahrenheit 911 ** If you are Democrat/liberal, you will probably like it. If you are Republican/conservative, you probably cannot be dragged to see it. Michael Moore makes no bones where he stands. He is manipulative, and not always playing fair as a documentarian, but I mostly liked it. Much more entertaining than a political documentary ought to be. I, Robot ** An OK popcorn movie, if you are not expecting it to resemble even slightly anything penned by Isaac Asimov. The start of another "rise of the machines" franchise, I think, joining the Matrix and Terminator films. Read/Post Comments (11) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
