2004-08-24 9:53 PM Olympic Moments, part 16 The Gymnastics Gala. The competion's over, but the gymnasts perform in a hokey "gala" exhibition. Instead of the glare from all the lights, the arena is dark and only the performer is lit up with spotlights. There's music for routines that don't normally get music in the actual competition. There are no judges.
What's the point? The figure skaters do the same sort of thing after their Olympic competition, but that's because they use the gala as an audition opportunity for the professional ice shows that they will be joining right after the Olympics.
