Christine's New Chapter

I love New Year's Day. The year stretches out in front of me, shining and brand new, a string of surprise and wonder and hope just waiting for me.

We had a wonderful time last night with friends here at the homestead. We fondue'd and lettuce-wrapped and nibbled all night, really, not leaving the table until well after midnight (with the exception of the horn blowing and the Times Square ball-dropping at the chiming of the hour). The kids (+1 who slept over) stayed up playing Warcraft together until after 3am - they're still sacked out in the front room. I didn't get up until 8ish, but went back to bed with pomegranite juice and half a toasted bagel and read the funnies and napped until 9:30.

Later I'll finally take the tree down, put all the holiday decorations away and reclaim the front room. But for now, the silence is sweet. I think I'll put on some shoes, make myself another cup of coffee, and walk outside into the sunshine.
