Exercise Done... 20 mins yoga

Time wasters. We writers know all the best ones. Like, checking email. Playing computer games to "free our creativity". Calling long lost relatives, just to see if we really DO have unlimited long-distance calling.

Laundry urges us away from our work in progress. Dust bunnies call. Dishes lurk in the corners of our mind, waiting to pounce while we think of the right word to type.

Then there's the garden to attend to, the dogs to play with (dogs need love, too!), children to chivvy into doing homework and thoughts of the coming meal to prepare.

WHEN, in all that is holy, does a writer find the time to write?

Susan Mallery answered that question for me at yesterday's LARA meeting. The answer, quite simply, is to write before you do anything else. Before you pick up email, before you call your friends, before you exercise, before you do dishes/laundry/wash the cat. If I want to write AND be published AND make a living at it, then this is what I need to do.

And that's all. So, having procrastinated most of my day away (though I did get those three pages in), I'm now going to ignore the fact that I feel like dreck, and write.
