I've written, since the 10th of august, about 35 pages. All on two different attempts on a first chapter for this story the editor wants to see and, unfortunately, all I had for it was a really swell idea when I pitched it.

Why do I do this to myself?

So anyway, last night my hubby comes home from rehearsal for SHREW and says that, ta da, the woman playing the Widow (a very tiny part) has quit and he offered me up in her place. Which is fine, because it'll give me time to reconnect with hubby, flirt and cozy and have a good time; but it interferes with both my writing and my weekend time something terrible. Meaning, I won't be able to see Jenn tomorrow for lunch and that just pisses me off.

Anyway. So I went to rehearsal, knowing I'd have about an hour to kill before I was needed. And I pulled out my Alpha and managed (w/help of headphones) to write three alpha pages (six regular ms pages) of yet another NEW opening to this novel.

And lo and behold, it's an opening I like, that I can sink my teeth into, that will carry my characters through the entire book. I am so relieved and yet so pissed that it came because I was stuck in an airless rehearsal room in Pasadena listening to fairly ordinary actors bellowing Shakespeare.

Because that doesn't make up for the fact that I'm NOT seeing Jenn for lunch tomorrow.

Grumble.
