Well, it's back. We have fire in Simi, burning the areas that didn't get burned two years ago. The Susanna Knolls area is burning, and we can see flame well into our valley now on the south east side.

The wind did shift and the fire pulled a 180 degree turn.

My home and family is in no danger - there are too many streets and too many houses between us and the Knolls for us to worry. Not to mention, fire usually likes to race down hill, rather than climb uphill, and we're definitely uphill. And five or more miles away.

Cold comfort, though, when the smoke stings your throat and blurs your vision.

The freeways are open - I took younger son to Best Buy out in Porter Ranch. We passed by the burned out area from yesterday - it came right down to the 118 Eastbound freeway. Right to the edge of the freeway. Long swaths were burned.

So for now, we have ways to get out of the city. No two-hour plus drives like yesterday's to go a mere 25 miles. I shudder to think what would happen if we had to evacuate Los Angeles, and even one freeway was shut down.
