A friend of mine, who is on the verge of publishing, has been asked by her agent to "brand" herself. Set up a website, do contests, a few give-aways. Let folks know what they'll get when they pick up her book in a pithy, quick phrase.

Yeah, I know - it's all the rage today. Branding of an author can make or break you if you're just starting out. But oh, how it isn't my favorite subject. Probably because I like writing just about everything except historicals, and how do you brand that?

I'm thrilled for my friend, really I am. She's very deserving of the excitement of her agent. And honestly, she's easily brand-able - she writes rom-suspense and things tend to blow up in her stories. But even she's got a whirling head, trying to pin down her style in a phrase.

For me and my work, right now, it's bloody impossible. Hopefully that'll change soon.

Sigh.
