I've got some terrific friends and family. I'm getting a steady stream of silly jokes from family, friends are calling and sending me cards, and everywhere I am the recipient of helpful hands and friendly smiles from complete strangers.

It's kind of weird. Nice, but weird.

Especially the strangers bit. I'm not used to complete strangers being nice to me. Maybe I'm smiling more, or something? But yesterday I received several helping hands that meant quite a lot.

Friends I haven't seen in years are also reaching out to me. And close friends are becoming even closer.

I know that if I had made the effort a long time ago to bring far-flung friends close it would have worked. I know if I had done more with my close friends, they would have become closer. I know its not only the issue I'm dealing with that's bringing good things to me. But it's a good lesson to learn. Reach out, and a hand will be there in return. Whether you reach in fear, anxiety, joy or friendship.

At least, that's been my experience.

I am blessed in my friends and family. And I guess not all complete strangers are jerks. Many of them are surprisingly empathetic and kind. I must remember to be that way to the stranger in my life that may need a helping hand.

What goes around comes around, after all...
