There are 8 bones in the wrist. Most people, when they break the scaphoid bone, don't realize they've broken anything and ice the swelling down. Six months later as they're still dealing with pain, they realize...and the doc has to do surgery to repair.

We got the son to an orthopedist before 24 hours had passed. Don't mess with mom's intuition!

He's in a cast and will be, most likely, for a good 8 to 12 weeks. No soccer that entire time. No exercise of any kind except walking. And it's his right hand, poor kid - and he's got a math test tomorrow. Sigh.

But we got it all done, he's set up and I'll be hauling him to and from classes for the next seven weeks. It's definitely going to be interesting!

Oh - and because we can't get the cast wet - he's going to get his hair cut. Mind you, he hasn't had his hair cut since he was 16, and now it's half way down his back. And curly. But he can't comb it much less wash it, so it's gonna have to go.
He won't be able to game competitively, either, poor thing. But he can type. So maybe, just maybe, he'll write.

I told him it's an opportunity to do things differently. I hope he agrees...
