and time moves on

Well, not only is dd in the middle of changes, it appears ds is also. DD let us know last night that ds was making noises of wanting to return to Il in November. He doesn't get to see his kids-can't seem to get it going straight down there. His heart isn't in it. He only moved back for his wife and when she left him he wanted to move to IL. We told him to stay in AZ for the kids. What's the use if he can't have contact. She makes one excuse after another. Plays games with him. I told Hubby last night that I wouldn't be surprised if youngest GD isn't his-felt that way long time ago. Don't know if DS has done all he possibly could do to better his life, but I do know he isn't progressing and he keeps going further downhill-latest is driving on suspended liscense-didn't know it was suspended. He said he returned paperwork but apparently foul up occured. He's working it out with the state to correct it. But he is very discouraged and depressed. He hinted at staying with DD for a little bit but no definate plans. I will have to remind dd that she was willing to let SIL cousin stay with them indefinately-so her brother shouldn't be a problem, especially if they can put a 3-4 month deadline to it. We'll see. I don't know how holidays will work out. I can't get out there, but really want to spend it with my kids. OH Boy. (deep sigh!)

Working on Tree of Life (TOF) afghan. Decided that side panels will have small garden decoration in the first 5 inches, then the rest will be plain double crochet up. Hubby looked up TOF on internet and came up with some pictures/prints-I would think that a TOF would have greenery on it-would have LIFE on it. Oh no! bare branches. Almost dead looking. But, he found one that showed what I was aiming for almost exactly. It is a snowscape of two trees really close together. They are snowcovered. It is a black & white picture. The branches intermingle and with the sun shining through them, you see the outline clearly. The trees are ALIVE! The snow gives the outline effect that I am trying for. Now he understands what I am going to do. He loves it. Now he is over his anger that I am not making the afghan in blocks, he understands that just because he gives me an idea, his idea can be a jumping point for further inspiration. His main concern was "how was I going to work on the project and carry it around-heavy". My main concern is the final look. I told him his idea of squares changed my idea of how it was going to be put together.
