Rainy Mondays

I am tired of rain. I am tired of the headaches that are coming with the rain. I don't need the weatherman to tell me that it is going to rain, my head does it for me. i want that to stop!!

I had a great weekend. DH & I went out Saturday. All day. I wore a pair of old shoes that were great when I bought them, but after Saturday are now in the trash! (from 10 to 6 walking in them made me realize not the best.)

We first stopped for breakfast at IHOP. We are regulars there. I get an omelet with spinach, extra cheese, roasted tomatoes with fruit instead of pancakes. DH gets the breakfast sampler with fruit. Most of the wait staff know us, and after one major complaint, treat us very well.

The major complaint was a day when we were shown a table and then didn't even get coffee/water for over 45 minutes. Didn't see a waitress. When the waitress for the next table stopped at her table we asked to see the manager. We got a very large discount off that meal. When we showed up the next week the manager was very happy to see us. The restaurant has trouble keeping their staff; if the weather is good, if it is a holiday a lot of their staff call off.

After we ate, we traveled to the metro stop closest to the post office and mailed the baby afghan to my daughter. I waited at the metro stop. It was quicker for DH to just run the package over. We sent the blanket with a book for DGD and a couple of duplicate purchase dvds that are family approprate. Then it was back onto the metro for the main part of the trip.

We were earlier than we thought. We were planning on seeing a movie but had more than an hour to spare. The theatre is in Chinatown and we had never explored there. So we walked up the street a couple of blocks. Really, I walked and DH rode. One side of the street was just restaurants and not even Chinese restaurants!

But we crossed the streets and came down the other side. And there it was a trading store. OH BOY!! This was the jackpot. This was a store that reminded me of the Chinatown I had seen all those times in Boston. And the stores I had visited when we were in Okinawa Japan. We called them Mamasan stores.

This shop was part grocerie store and part knick knack store. We found tea sets, saki sets, and woks-the restaurant style. Figurines and screens, incense, and holders, shoshi screens (future purchases), fountains, bamboo plants decoratively braided. We ended up with a green 'jade' elephant standing on it's hind legs, stick incense, gold incense holder, and the 'sand' to burn it in. And yes, we have burned it already.

Just walking through the store was like visiting a time machine. This is a 'we have to come back'. DH kept on saying, "we cannot leave without buying something'.
I know where to go for little Christmas Gifts. I saw a Samuri Warrior doll in case that I liked. He fell in love with a screen! I have a feeling that the next time we go to the movie we will be going back there!

From the store, we went to the movies. We saw 'THOR'. This is the next movie in the Marvel Comics releases. It isn't Lord of the Rings, but it was a decent film. Decent for families and will be a purchase. They do use the Nordic legends very well, and I like the idea that '...Magic and Science are the same.'

If you go to see this film- DO NOT LEAVE THE FILM BEFORE ALL THE CREDITS ARE DONE THERE IS SOMETHING YOU NEED TO SEE AT THE END.

We were still not done with our day. We had an errand to run-we were in desparate need of cat food. Dear Sweetie has not been eating well. So we got back on the train and went to Petsmart. There we got Science Diet dry-for over 7 year old cats, then since she has been so off her feed, we picked up canned food-chicken, turkey, beef. Now needed another dish and covers!!

Ok, still not done. DH needed a new belt and there is a men's store for his size-catch, need to take the train. But this time, we will also walk another 3 block and eat supper. So on we go. By the way, this is a store DH said he didn't think he would ever go in, yeah. They are related to the store he normally goes to, but we would have to drive to. He finds a belt. They have clothes that fit and I know how to get Gifts there too. Another score.

Now for supper. Bertolli's. We were early-it was only 4. We didn't really know what we wanted. There were only 2 other couples in the whole restaurant. We looked. I wasn't really super hungry. But start with soup, then share a pizza. Hmm that sounds good. And their bread dipped in seasoned olive oil.. We ended up eating 1/2 of the sausage and ricotta pizza, a cup of soup and then splitting a dessert. It was a open faced tort chocolate and cherries, with vanilla Italian ice cream. (I cannot remember the name of it.)

Then finally, home. Sore feet and all! Busy day! Cat was glad to see us.
