2011-11-04 1:46 PM Early Retirement? Our agency's budget is being cut big time. Realy big time. I work for the only agency that actually makes money for the government. We get the money that pays for EVERYTHING THE GOVERNMENT NEEDS! And congress is doing it's usual "you don't need that much money" song and dance. So today the Commisioner released a memo that basically said that he is notifying Congress that because of the drastic budget cuts and the fact that normal attrition will not allow labor costs to drop enough, he is being forced to offer "Voluntary Early Retirement" to certain segments of employees. Which segments have not been determined as of yet. Normally, employees have to be within 5 years of retirement. I would meet that requirement. So would B. If it is offered, do we take it-normally there is a payoff, then we separate. Do I want to take it? Would we be able to live? If B stayed in, we would. If we both left, it becomes a little more iffy. Lots to discuss. Then it would depend on if my job would be one of those allowed to retire, or his!
