2011-12-13 6:48 AM Choices My DGD is learning about choices. She plays trumpet in the band. She is trying to make 2nd chair before the end of the school year and has a good chance. She is advancing through the 'books' at a good clip. She practices every night, and on her own without her parents listening. She loves playing and will listen to music and pick out the trumpet part and play it by ear. I think she has a little bit of talent. (Yes there is a little bit of bragging going on here) The 1st chair is held by an 8th grader who has been playing 'forever' and takes private lessons. According to DD, band teacher says DGD is already showing sighns of bypassing her. Private lessons not needed. DGD has natural talent and motivation and love of music the 8th grader doesn't have.
This year she decided that she wanted to be in the choir also. She is in the sixth grade-middle school. Well, the middle school has a very small choir grades 6 through 8 combined. So small that for the holiday season, she has been learning the songs with the band, but will have to sing with the choir and not play with the band at all. The middle school will be singing with the high school for a presentation. DGD and an 8th grader each have 3 solos. Ok, my DD sang in that high school choir. You don't just get solos, even when they do combined shows. You have to sing GOOD! The only bummer DGD sees is that she has to watch a friend make 'google eyes' at a boy DGD likes. DGD is burned out on Christmas music. She has been playing, singing and practicing it since September! I asked my DGD if she was upset about not playing with the band for the show and she said no, just tired of the Christmas music. Poor little one. She is just starting it. Anyone ever hear of a singing trumpet player? Read/Post Comments (4) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
