Perhaps that is simply a bit of 1960s idealism that most people have outgrown; but it remains near and dear to me. 2004-01-23 8:20 AM pages I tallied up my pages for the last 24 hours and found that I had gained nine pages on Children and three on Darkness. Part of that was a matter of seeing how much more fully some of the scenes needed to be developed. Originally I had two companions in Children caught in a bad situation and one is restrained forcibly and made to watch the other eaten. Six paragraphs. Intro paragraph, some dialong, interior reactions, a few lines about what was happening, and then exit paragraph. Now it's doubled. It was supposed to be gritty and terrifying from the viewpoint of the one watching it all. I broke the scene down, expanded the action by taking it a step at a time, intro, stalk, chase, caught, completion of the act, reaction and exit. I also broke the chunk of interior reaction down and interspersed it throughout the scene, making it work better. I'm much more satisfied with it now. It works. My usual tendency to underwrite is something I have to fight and understate also. Some people go right past what I've written because I tried to be too subtle and then pulled up sharply to ask "What? How did we get here?" So I try to watch for that.
Well, onward and upward. And I still wouldn't mind eating some well roasted haunch of vampire. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
