Perhaps that is simply a bit of 1960s idealism that most people have outgrown; but it remains near and dear to me. 2004-11-09 9:15 AM Moaning Pickledick I couldn't resist. Nicky is moaning about his bronchitis and how sickness leads to stories. Even when bronchitis is enough to lead to spending time in the hospital it is still a minor thing. Most writers don't seem compelled to write about their every skinned knee and stubbed toe the way that he does. Bronchitis and accute asthma were the bane of my existence as a child. I spent more time in the Wheezer ward at the hospital than most. I never thought it was something to moan about. I always ignored it and got on with my life. It's another effeminate trait of his, identifying with the sickly gothic female from the 19th century. Jane Eyre would have kicked his butt for strength of character. If I listed all the things I have wrong with me and have had go wrong with me, all the times I have ended up in either the hospital or the emergency ward, you would soon get bored. In fact so would I. I prefer a certain stoic toughness in my work, in my life, in my way of looking at things. I live my philosophy. Oh, I do get exhausted and sometimes down and it shows in these pages, but then I rebound swiftly and continue on. Post-polio syndrome is a serious drag, but if you want to know about it, google it. I'm not going to moan about it here. Pickledick moaning about his bronchitis as if it were a serious illness was something I found extremely offensive. As a disabled person who has spent her entire life fighting it, I look at what he is saying as evidence that he is a wimp and a wuss.
