2002-08-02 9:06 PM Life should be more like the movies AETW: 1658
Good morning, sunshines. The alarm startled me out of sleep this morning, but then I was awake, so I got up (and it was pretty much eight hours of sleep, so I can’t really complain). I sometimes have trouble getting to sleep, and not sleeping for ten-plus hours the night before seems to help. Imagine that. Anyway, I wanted to see if I could accomplish anything useful before my chiro appt. Sometimes life should be more like the movies. I got back from my chiro appt (which felt waaaaanderful, by the way—a great massage, and the masseuse was _really_ interested in the SCA, so I gave her a card) and was cutting up a melon to snack on when the doorbell rang. I discovered a gorgeous man with flowing blond I’m-in-a-band type hair. Oh. Oh my. Turned out he was from the electric company, and had to go up on the roof and move some of their wires or something away from the phone co’s wires, because the phone co had complained. Or something like that. “You can climb on my roof anytime, baby,” I said. But not until I was back in the house with the door closed. Such a wimp I am. Such yumminess he was. If life were like the movies, I would have a) had a wittier comeback and b) not said it out of his hearing. The rest of the movie I leave to your imaginations… Ahhhh… Candles and incense lit, Kate Bush on iTunes, a hot cup of tea, several fun writing projects to choose from, and the afternoon ahead of me. And Ken coming home tonight, and I’ll be making a healthy recipe that involves pasta and pesto, amazingly. Sometimes, life just works. Oh, and I prepped “Always a Bridesmaid” to send to EQMM. Is it just me or are there a dearth of pro paying mystery markets out there? Ack. Well, I went to B&N to see if they have the August issue of Realms of Fantasy, because I never received it (and the October issue just arrived)—I’ve been a subscriber since Day One, plus there were at least two stories in the August issue that I’d heard about and had been looking forward to. Well, B&N doesn’t seem to carry it, but I did leave with four books. Oops. Two by Barbara Hambly, who is wonderful and I do buy everything she writes (this time it was a fantasy called Sisters of the Raven and a new mystery in her Benjamin January series, called Die Upon a Kiss); Empire of Bones by Liz Williams, a friend of mine from Britain (her first book, The Ghost Sister, is excellent); and Ellen Datlow’s Green Man anthology. I also ordered Mirror Mirror: Women Writers Discuss Their Favorite Fairy Tales. Now, back to writing. I’ve got about 20 minutes, and then I’ll shower, and at 5:30 I’ll start dinner. Ken should be home by 6. Yay! My goal on AETW, BTW, is to hit the 2500 word mark on Chapter 10. Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
