She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Production on a few fronts

AETW: 219
“Innocence”: finished

I must say, I’m loving this cable modem. Perhaps too much…

Got up, went to chiro appt, raced home, jumped back in car to take Ken to the airport. On the way home, a big fat stupid SUV tried to merge into my lane exactly where I was. My car’s horn doesn’t work right now (but will be fixed—soon) so all I could do was slam on the brakes. The squealing of tyres alerted the other driver to his/her stupidity and s/he swerved back into the correct lane. I was actually quite calm about the whole thing. I was lucky that there was nobody right behind me. My car totally rocks, and even though it doesn’t have ABS, it didn’t fishtail at all. I hope the other driver peed his/her pants, though.

So, Meg is coming over after all. Julian is fine—her only complaints are that she can’t drink a chocolate milkshake or eat a corndog because of the placement of the bandage. We will make chemises and veils, and all will be well.

I’m back. Meg and I sewed for something like five hours, completing three chemises and two veils and wimples. There may have been more, but my brain has mostly turned to mush. I’m feeling a little lonely and despondent, and all I want to do is nap. But I will persevere, and get some writing done. I’ve done a little work on “Innocence”; it’s done but needs a stronger ending. I’d like to turn that in at Spinners this month.

Scifi.com rejected “Soulsearching” recently, so I sent it to Strange Horizons, not realising that they’re still holding “Proof of Devotion”. So now I’m torn. I think SH is the best place to send “Soulsearching” next, but I don’t like it sitting on the desk. Hmm… Just reviewed the various guidelines. Alchemy pays well, although it’s new and they haven’t responded to my request for guidelines (letter and SASE mailed mid-June. Ah, the heck with it. I want to see this story sell!

That’s it. I’m admitting defeat. It’s midnight; I must sleep. I know what happens next in AETW, but I’m struggling with each word. Tomorrow, though, I’ll finish Chapter 11.
