Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

But we don't have his number...

Sorry for the lack of entry yesterday, pets. I was tired and went on something of an anti-computer kick. Oh, I used it to play 80s dance pop very loud, and I did check e-mail regularly and answer crucial things. But I didn’t go through the In Box like I planned, or send the e-mails on my To Do list, or even write.

Instead, I shredded massive amounts of old paperwork (bank statements, bills, etc.), and weeded out about 1/3 of my clothes to take to Goodwill. Ken’s dad and bro Dennis had showed up during the motorcycle-repair frenzy and stayed for supper; Ken grilled burgers and I helped put things out. In the evening I watched part of a bio about Oprah Winfrey (Kris & Dean recommended we watching/read bios of successful people, paying particular attn to how they dealt with low points in their careers), and some of VH-1’s 100 Sexiest Performers, and Ken and I watched Monk and some other silly stuff.

The upshoot is, I have a lot to do today, but I’m rested and energized.

Whoosh! That was the sound of a rejected story (“Testing the Waters”, nixed by Strange Horizons) heading back out the door (to “Argosy”) with a four-hour turnaround. I also sent off the essay about Eostre, and came up with lots of good ideas about the “doors” story. I have two of the main characters, conflict, inner turmoil, and so forth. I should do a little more research on the mythology, and there are some holes, but I assume the latter will fill themselves in as I write. That’s what my subconscious is for, after all.

I exercised this morning, for the first time in too long, yay.

Okay, lots of e-mail answered, and stuff done re: the site booklet and other projects. It was Open Sewing tonight, and before everyone showed up I put together the second kneeling cushion for Their Excellencies of Gyldenholt. Problem is, I can’t find the camp pillow that’s supposed to go into it. Ack! I also cut out the rest of a dark green linen cotehardie that was partly done. I need to cut out a white linen under-kirtle as well, and then sewing will commence on those.

Two more eps of “Angel”. I nearly fell off the sofa when I realised Angel uses the same cell phone that we do.
