She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Keyboard-lickin' good

I got almost everything accomplished house-wise yesterday except for finishing the master bathroom scrub-down and spraying the roses. Sunny called to say her arrival would be delayed for a few hours, so I did a little copy editing and other catch-up work. She and I then proceeded to have a fantastic evening. It’s so amazing to hook up again with someone I haven’t seen in three years—and had only hung out with a handful of times before that anyway—and just immediately settle into a comfortable, fun conversation. We talked about absolutely everything, drank wine and ate pasta, watched a bit of the Monty Python DVD (a lot of the extra bits), and laughed a lot.

We went to bed just after midnight, and Ken called just after 2 a.m. to say he’d arrived safely and was on his way to the hotel. If I remember correctly from all those trips years ago, 7 a.m. there is 2 p.m. here, so I’ll probably get a call from him mid-afternoon here when he wakes up.

Sunny and I got up at 8 today, but she ended up not leaving ‘til 11 because we couldn’t stop talking. Our final farewell hug was cut short because my phone started ringing. She wasn’t looking forward to driving through the desert today. In some ways, I don’t blame her. In other ways, it appealed to my wanderlust.

Now it’s after noon, and I’ve done almost nothing today. Quite the change from yesterday. Going back to bed is temping, but it’s best that I don’t. A cup of tea may change my outlook for the better.

Rejection from Argosy for “Testing the Waters”. It’s back out to Alchemy today, along with “Heaven Has Eyes” to RoF. I want to switch my tracking system over to Excel, but do I have the time to start it today? [Much later. The answer was no. But soon.]

You know the car commercial where the guy picks the car he wants, and then he sees the salesman come out of the office with a couple who obviously wants the same car, so he licks the door handle to gross them out? Just now, apparently I wasn’t petting Charlie sufficiently to her liking, because she started licking the keyboard.

I’ve been wiped out all day. I did get some copy editing done, but not as much as I wanted to, given that I’ll be gone most of Thursday and folks may start showing up for the Michael Praed Fest as early as noon on Saturday (to use the sewing room. So much for my ego. ). Helped folks sew, and now I’m going to answer some e-mail and get to bed at a reasonable hour (for me, anyway). I need a full night’s sleep, badly.

So, after 1 a.m., I finally go.
