Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

One symptom at a time

I’m having The Slowest Cold in the World, with only one symptom at a time. First, last week (as you’ll recall), I had a scratchy throat. That mutated into a minor sore throat. Now that’s gone, and I have mild congestion. I imagine when that goes, I might have a bit of a cough. The most annoying thing about the whole situation is that my body is still demanding 10-11 hours of sleep. I went to bed by midnight last night, fully intending to get up at 8. The alarm went off and my body just said “no”. Damn.

OTOH, I did get half of the indexing done last night, so I just have to do the other half, and off it goes, and I’m free of copy editing for awhile. However, my writing goal was to work at B&N every morning for a couple of hours, ideally to do 2K/day. I’m still going to shoot for that, even if I have to do it at home. :-)

Ugh. Copy editing done. Most of the GP is done, except for editing and inserting the Council Meeting minutes, and figuring out where to put the Leatherworkers Guild special event notice. My shoulder hurts, and I want to take a nap. I’ve been wanting to take a nap for a good two hours, actually.

My incentive to keep working is Larry, through headphones. Although I have to be careful not to burst into song and startle the cats or scare the husband. I do love listening via headphones, because I hear all sorts of things I’ve never noticed before…

I sent out my birthday party invitation last week (via e-mail). Most of the responses have been regrets, although I do have a growing list of maybes of various strengths. Sigh. If you think you should have been sent an invitation (and if you’re reading this, you probably know me well enough to garner an invitation! I like big parties!) and haven’t received one, let me know.

We watched the first two eps of “Wonderfalls” last night, and it’s pretty good. Perhaps not as good as the raves about it, but still better than 99% of the schlock on TV. I don’t fin the main character wildly sympathetic, which may be my main reservation about the show, along with her unbelievable family (but they may be specifically there for irony, so I could be wrong). Apparently there’s already a letter-writing campaign to keep it on air.

Tonight we watched a good ep of “Tru Calling”, and I’m not saying that because of the nice cleavage Eliza shows in her evening gown. A huge revelation was revealed at the end, which left me slavering for the next ep.

Before that, we hosted sewing night, which turned into an amusing discussion of high school reunions and the like. I proved that I’m sick enough to not be able to pattern (thank goodness Ken was there), but at least a pair of pants/trews got made.

Tomorrow I’ll update about Black Oak Lodge: Beowulf (which was awesome!) and finish the final Mexico update. I proposed to Ken that we run off to see a matinee, too. Now, however, I’m going to chug some Nyquil and read a few pages of a Nora Roberts book until I pass out. Oh, and I have to talk about _The Last Light of the Sun_, too. (That was a reminder to myself. You can freely ignore it.)

Oh—and 4 days ‘til Sarah gets here!
