2004-03-23 11:59 PM Time off? Last night we ordered food from a Thai/Chinese restaurant we had a menu for. The only other time we tried to order from them, they said it would take an hour. This time it was very speedy, and I’m happy to report the food was pretty good. The Tom Yung Koon soup didn’t taste like the others I’ve had, but it was still tasty. We also had a garlic-pepper beef dish and Kung Pao chicken, and they were nicely spicy, which made my nose and throat feel good. I’m still trying to find a place that has good crispy beef, but we’ll definitely keep this place in our restaurant file.
I’m not good at taking time off, but I think I really need to this week. It’s the only way my cold is going to get better. It’s not easy, though, because I really had wanted to get a lot of writing done. But here’s today’s plan: finish the GP for proofreading, get this journal updated, review stories to be mailed (and maybe prep some to mail). Go out on a date with Ken to see a matinee. Go food shopping. Continue embroidering Larry’s and Ricky’s signatures on my Styx shirt in case I want to wear it on Saturday. Start watching the Stephen King miniseries so I don’t get too far behind. (Ken’s not greatly interested in it, but said he’ll bring out his laptop and work while we watch.) I ought to do some reading, too—I don’t read enough, and have a huge pile of magazines (not to mention books). It sounds like a lot, but I think it’s a fair amount of relaxing…right? <><><> We went out to see “Secret Window”. Hm. I’m still trying to decide what I think of it. Of course, any movie that makes you keep thinking has to have been good at some level. Johnny Depp is amazing. I think I need to read the Stephen King novella that it’s based on before I make any final decisions. For a while, during the movie, I really didn’t like it (more for the horror-movie quality about it), but then it changed. I go through phases; sometimes I love horror movies and other times I can’t watch them. Go figure. Modem’s broken. At least, the cable co thinks that’s the problem, so Ken’s off to exchange it. He’s been fighting with the network for a while now—we finally got Airport working, but then Cat’s computer (the only non-Mac in a house of four computers, three printers, two scanners, and a partridge…) didn’t work on the network. Got Cat’s computer working on the network, but then Airport didn’t connect to the Internet. Etc. Got everything working, but then the cable modem went out. Ack. Well, we have a new cable modem, but now nothing really works, except the G4. Bugger all. GP is ready for proofreading. We didn’t get to food shopping because of the computer woes, so I had a salad and then we ordered pizza. We’re watching a wretched little TV movie called “Celeste in the City” because Xander from “Buffy” plays a gay guy (and very well, I might add: not too camp).
