Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

News and new plans

It’s official: “Frozen” will appear in Best Lesbian Erotica 2005! This is the one that got the “70% of the stories will actually get chosen” semi-acceptance a few months back. So I’m quite chuffed. It’s a story I’m quite fond of. (It originally appeared in _Dyke the Halls_ from Circlet Press.)

In other writing news, Phaedra gave me an astute critique on the BattleTech story I wrote. Part of what she said, I already knew, but a random comment she made as part of that sank into my subconscious, and as I was getting in the car after dinner, the correct idea sprang forth. Cool. Now, to find the time to write! I didn’t get to B&N this morning because we took the car in (see below). Soon, hopefully.

We packed most of the sewing room today, and Ken finished packing my grandmother’s china (a real built-in china hut awaits! And a real dining room table in a real dining room for eating off of the china!). A few other things got packed. At one point, I got fairly stressed, although I couldn’t determine exactly why, which was very annoying and no doubt added to the stress. I think it’s partly because there’s so much stuff that needs to be packed that doesn’t go together—I can happily pack books or knickknacks or whatever, because it’s logical.

We took the car in, and then ordered more than $500 worth of parts for the poor thing. Once it’s fixed, we’ll sink some money to get the paint redone, etc. It’s been abused for too long.

New plan (because you know how frequently our plans change) is to be completely moved out of this house before we go to CCR in Colorado. We’ll come back from that, do some work in the house (like, running a new gas line for the stove, and a water line for where we want to put a dishwasher, and ripping up the 1970s turquoise carpet* in the room that will be my office…you know, festive stuff like that), and leave a few days later for Styxfest in Oregon. The cats will be boarded until after we get home from that.

We have also succumbed to temptation and are hiring “mover boys” (as our roomie Cat [not to be confused with “the cats”] calls them) to schlep our stuff to a storage unit in Oxnard.

Cat signed the lease on her new apartment tonight (she’s moving in with two mutual friends), so this is all dovetailing so nicely.

* Happily, this is the only offensive carpet. There are hardwood floors throughout, save for a few rooms. The TV room (what is now a downstairs bedroom) and what we’ll use as the master bedroom have new, grey/black flecked carpeting, which is fine. The bathrooms, utility porch, and kitchen have linoleum. The rest: glorious oak!
