Happy New Year! Recent conversations have been about writing, and scheduling writing. A few days ago I had to sit down and figure out all the projects I had scurrying around, and which ones I had to trap in a cage so I could work on them now, and which ones I could leave free (or harden my heart and push away with my foot when they came up and begged for attention) for a little while. Last night Phae and I had a great iChat about (among many things) dividing your writing time into manageable chunks each day, and knowing how much you can write in, say, 15 minutes, and then how to divide your projects between those chunks of time. (We finally realized we were talking about the same thing, but coming at it from opposite directions. A minor downside of the shared-brain phenomena, it seems.) Holly Lisle, for the past few months, had a novel revision going in the morning and a new novel in the afternoon. Jenny Crusie’s about to embark on something similar, with a novella in the morning and a novel in the afternoon. Interesting stuff (if you’re a writer, anyway). Yesterday we went for a group ride out to Lake Elsinore, through the mountains on Ortega Highway, and had lunch in San Juan Capistrano. (I suggested the restaurant, a Mexican place Teresa and I had gone to. Sadly, the food had gone from fantastic to mediocre—although it was the brunch menu, whereas when I was there before it was lunch and mostly empty. Gorgeous historic building, though.) Then we headed back home on Hwy 1. It was raining, and the seas were stormy grey. Today I worked, and then we had dinner with Morgana and Brian and all went to see Rent at the cheap theatre. Good movie, probably better as a stage musical. Amazingly gorgeous cast. Moo with me! ---
