It’s really hard to listen to “Enola Gay” (Orchestral Manœuvres in the Dark, you heathens. I’ll bet Meglet is the only person who knew that) without singing along. Ken keeps smiling at me in that big ol’ I-love-you goofy grin when I start bopping along. He’s probably just glad I’m wearing headphones and he doesn’t have to listen to 80s pop. We went out to a McMenamin’s for supper—it’s a local chain that brews their own beer as well. Every restaurant is in a different old building, some with hotel rooms, too. (We were at the Roadhouse at Cornelius Pass.) I’m particularly enamored of their Ruby Ale, a pale, raspberry flavored (and tinted) confection, and indulged in a pint to go with my most excellent calzone: chicken, feta, fresh spinach, and fresh parmesan. No vampires tonight—I breathe garlic in their general direction, ha ha! We shared a McMenamin’s signature dish for dessert: marionberry cobbler with fresh vanilla ice cream. Soooo good. In today’s writing news, I’m pretty sure half of Chapter 2 is really a prologue, but I gritted my teeth, wrote it out (it’ll probably be more fleshed out/action if/when I move it), and soldiered on. The point of this is to not edit. Still, I’m having fun with it. I also finished the critique I needed to do, brainstormed some short stories for upcoming anthologies, checked work e-mail (although I didn’t do a whole lot of actual work-work, so that will have to be focused on today), and exercised. ---
