Exercise: ow Home from Black Oak Lodge. We ended up not leaving Friday after all. Ken had to run errands in the a.m. that took him much longer than expected, and I got stressed, and we’re just going to leave it at that. So, we spent Friday at home, and watched the new Doctor Who that night, and I know I got some writing and work stuff done, but damned if I can remember exactly what now. We got up to the site late Saturday morning, fought our way through crowds of people who wanted to hug us hello [g], and got changed into garb and settled in. There wasn’t a great deal of enthusiasm for the scavenger hunt, but three teams participated and those folks did a stellar job, and seemed to have a lot of fun doing it. So that was nice. After the feast we did Spark in the Dark, and I seem to have become the Official Teller of the History of Spark in the Dark, which is just fine with me. Overall, it was a fun event, but I came home very tired and a bit headachy, and not as relaxed as I would have liked. I also didn’t get to see enough of Maren. But it was wonderful to spend a little time with her, and with all of our friends. I also managed to do something awful to my back. Apparently I did it while standing still. No, really. I was standing there while Ken laced my Irish dress, and it didn’t hurt before that, and it hurt like hell afterwards. I’ve been chugging Tylenol all day, and iced it, but I’m still in a lot of pain. Thank goodness I have a chiro appt tomorrow. The time since we’ve been home has been spent doing laundry, putting the bike back together so Ken can leave tomorrow, writing, and catching up on various little things. Sarah had an energy surge and did major work on the first three chapters of ALNM. I did more work on the first chapter and fired it back to her, and some minor work on the next two. Hopefully tomorrow we’ll be able to discuss 3–6, and get the New and Improved Proposal off to the editor. I’m now, however, far too tired to tackle any other writing project. Sigh. Maybe I should’ve taken a nap this afternoon. I’m just so bad with the napping thing, it usually doesn’t seem worth it. Ken leaves tomorrow for 6 weeks in Portland (well, if he gets the bike all put back together, and the helmets wired, and…), and I’m trying not to be maudlin. I get to go up and spend some time with him (we’re going to go out to the coast for a couple of days for my birthday, before I go to the workshop), and then he’ll be home for my party the following weekend. But still. The day-to-day apartness will suck. I’ll just do my best to focus on writing. <>-<>-<> I’m honestly not sure if I’ve ever seen an episode of the previous Doctor Who series. (Is it counted as multiple version? I’m not sure.) Odd, I know. I know all about it, and have read Doctor Who books, though, so I have a reasonable knowledge of the show. Enough so that when I studied in England in 1987, and I was in a market in Manchester, and there was a Dalek in the middle of the damn market (I am not making this up—there was an honest-to-gods Dalek in the middle of a punk market in Manchester), I was terrified and snuck by it. Having not really seen it before, then, I have nothing to compare the new series to. I’d say that after two episodes, the jury’s still out. I was just the teensiest bit bored during the first ep—I think simply because like with all similar shows, if we already know what’s going on, we want the characters to figure it out so we can all move on to the really fun stuff. The second ep was better, and we laughed out loud at any number of British in-jokes. The biggest downside is that Billie Piper continues to annoy the living daylights out of me. My hope is that she’ll slowly grow to just mildly annoy me. <>-<>-<> Update: Ken’s not leaving ‘til Tuesday! This only delays the inevitable, and may mean he stays a day or two longer at the other end, but hey, I’ll take my small happy moments where I can. :-) ---
