Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Steady on

Words Written: ALNM Ch9 ~1300 words; “On the Twelfth Day…” ~2500 words
Writing Stats: Submitted “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” to She’s On Top anthology. Critiqued a story for Teresa.

Whoops, sorry, didn’t mean to go so long w/o posting. Just been…well, I can’t say I’m busy, but I’m steadily working on stuff, and that in itself is a Very Good Thing.

On the writing front, I’ve done a couple of critiques, finished two stories, and have been working on Chapter 9 of ALNM as well as going over the last two chapters from Sarah. It took me a while to get going with things, but my brain is finally getting back up to speed after the recent lack of exercise.

Speaking of exercise, I’ve been to the gym three times so far. The first was for my free welcome-to-the-gym personal trainer thing. I was rather underwhelmed. It was less an introduction to the gym and a setup of my workout routine, and more of a general “here are good things to do” with a vague sense of suggesting I hire a personal trainer. Hm. I admit that part of it may have been my fault; although I said “I haven’t been to a gym in a long time; pretend I’m new,” I did go in a with specific plans. Plus, since I still have to pay attn to my back, I’m not ready for a big ol’ workout routine. I can figure a lot of it out on my own. Been using the elliptical and treadmill, plus stretching. Wednesday I’ll take my first yoga class, which is held 3x/week. Once I’m feeling good with that, I’ll move on to Pilates. Already I have more energy, and I’m feeling very good overall.

Friday I went down to Pancho’s in Manhattan Beach to see Todd-of-Styx drum with Day After Dazed, meeting up with Sheri, Tani, and other fan friends. Good stuff. Chris Slade, the drummer for AC/DC, The Firm, etc. (as the lead singer said, “He was in 6 out of 10 videos you saw in the ‘80s.”), was in the audience, and was persuaded to drum for “Dirty Deeds.” (Note to Anwyn: He was a later drummer, so the fact that I didn’t think to ask him if he remembered you until I was on my way home was a good thing in the end!) I left after the second of three sets, because my back was hurting (stupid barstools). But I had a fantastic time while I was there.

Sunday late afternoon, Morgana came over (Brian was at Queen’s Champion) and we hung out, went to Chili’s for supper, and then to her place to watch an episode of Terry Jones’ The Crusades and an Animal Planet special on wolves. When a two-day-old wolf cub howls, it is the cutest thing. Ever.

Blessed marine layer! The weekend was relentlessly sunny and beastly hot, but today was tolerable, huzzah.

It’s late now, and I think I’m coming down with a cold (I will not be sick, goddamnitalltohell!), so I’m going to chug some Nyquil and burrow into my comfy bed and not come out for a while.
