Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Writers vs normal people

Words Written: “Storming the Castle” 1535
Writing Stats: RWA stuff
Exercise: 1 hr yoga

I seriously considered going to CP Prize today, riding out with Morgana and Tomi (Brian was catching an earlier carpool) and hanging out with friends I haven’t seen in a while. But in the end, I decided that continuing my attempt to catch up on things was a better plan. I’m working on antho stories early, both because getting things in early is better than last-minute, and because when Sarah gets Chapter 12 to me, I’ll be focusing on ALNM again. (We’re at about 50K of a 70K-word book! Woohoo!) Plus a huge mass of work stuff is supposed to arrive today. A few things have already come in, and although I suspect most authors won’t bother to submit until Monday or Wednesday (and if the person who logs in the files and moves them to where I can access them isn’t in, I can’t read the stuff anyway), I need to keep on top of everything. Plus there’s yoga; I’ve been twice this week and would like to hit it today, to maintain the benefit rather than having to wait until next Wednesday. (The class is W-F-Sa.)

The plan seems to have been a good one; it allowed me to stay up later last night that I would have if I’d been planning to go to the event (although I still went to bed “early,” for me, because I was exhausted), and in that time I figured out what my next antho story was about. So I’m going to dive into that today, and see how far I get, along with editing and yoga and food shopping and some Dr Who.

Okay. Very productive day. A good start on the antho story, one editing project done, yoga done, e-mail done, Styx project stuff done. A little TV watched, some chatting with my beloved. Food shopping. Cat scritching. Go me.

I’m sorry I couldn’t see friends at the event, but I’m planning on Lyondemere Anniversary later in the month, which won’t be quite as hot (ugh, heat and a back brace). And tomorrow I’ll be having dinner at Morgana and Brian’s with a few folks, so I’m not totally anti-social, really.

Meanwhile, I don’t know why I keep forgetting to mention that Ken’s coming home for a break soon! Probably just a few days, but hey, we’ll take what we can get. Next weekend-ish. He’ll finish up this project, and take some time before starting the next one. He’s exhausted, poor thing, working really late hours. Good money, sucky schedule. Thank goodness it’s not a regular thing. But. Home, soon!

The Difference Between Normal People and Writers:

Driving home from the grocery story. It’s a pleasant, sunny day, the beginning of a holiday weekend. Kids are playing in yards. You see some folks loading a sleeping bag into the back seat of a car. The sleeping bag isn’t rolled up and looks bulky, as if they’re using it to transport other items. Your first thought?

“How nice, they’re going camping.”

“Wow, they have a lot of guts transporting a dead body in broad daylight.”
