But fellow writer Bill is hosting a party for our local writers group tonight.

It should be fun. Last year Bill hosted a party as well. There were plenty of appetizer-sized hunks of cheese and chicken and whatnot, and lots to drink. Unfortunately, Bill lives in the nether-regions of Dallas suburbia, among the barren coyote-prowled, tumbleweed-strewn wastelands of Frisco. So I'll have to limit my liquor intake in order to make the trek safely home.
