CBS is canceling Joan of Arcadia, along with 60 Minutes II and some other shows, basically in an appeal to get younger viewers.

What are they gonna put on Friday nights?

CBS is trying two supernatural stories on Friday nights. "Threshold" features a team of experts called in when the Navy discovers aliens have landed in the Atlantic Ocean. Hewitt's "Ghost Whisperer," reminiscent of NBC's "Medium," is about a woman who conveys messages from dead people to the living.

"I think talking to ghosts may skew younger than talking to God," Moonves said.

Oh, man...that one made me laugh out loud.

Talking to ghosts is apparently cooler than talking to god. I guess, you know, not talking to apparations at all is completely lame.

Although somewhat to the major networks' credit, some of the recent medical shows and ones like the CSI suite do actually protray protagonists that use scientific thinking to catch bad guys. The female forensic specialists are all still super hot, and it's all glammed up in general...but still, at least there are some characters in prime time who actually employ critical thinking skills and are lauded for it.
