Market Hunting

Just received the letter informing me that "God of Light" didn't make it to the finalists for the Writers of the Furture contest. No surprise there, really. And now that I'm done with my August 8 - September 16 stint in the 6th grade classroom where I've been subbing (and thus the reason for the silence), I can gather the stories that need markets and finally take some time to find them some. Available at the moment:

» "A Gift of Writing"
» "In the Blood"
» "Presence"
» "God of Light"

"In the Blood" is problematic. It's a reprint and the first time it was published it was at a "for the love" publication. It apparently makes good y.a. though - my science kids loved it. ;)

And then there's "Into Stone." It's supposedly been sitting at Chaos Theory since September last year. The emailed a new response date for January. I finally queried in April. I've still heard nothing. I don't if I should just pull it, send it elsewhere and wait and see on two markets, or if I should keep waiting on CT. More than likely I'll just sub elsewhere and see what happens. It's a reprint too, although in this case i was paid for it. So, time to search up 5 markets.

I'm still waiting for responses to . . .

» "Human" (at F&SF since Feb. 2005)
» "Intended" (at Kenoma since May 2005)
» "Like Fathers" (at One Story since May 2005)
» "Cameo" (aka "Widower," at Shred since July 2005)
» "Promises" (at Cemetary Dance since April 2005)

One other story, "This," is being revised before being sent back out.

For some reason I thought I had more than that, but I'm probably thinking about the stuff I have being critiqued that I haven't been able to touch in ages.
