Here, from our New York World News Headquarters in New York is Connie Chung. CC: Good afternoon and welcome to “1 one 1”, I’m Connie Chung. Yesterday the historic handover of sovereignty in Iraq occurred in a highly guarded super secret ceremony two days ahead of schedule. When president Bush was informed of the news at the NATO summit he wrote “Let Freedom Ring!” on the document. Much of the government and people in Iraq are unsure what the handover meant and many don’t know it occurred, as the ceremony took place in the highly fortified “green zone” which is headquarters for the “Allied” forces in the troubled country. We have a very few minutes today to talk to President George Bush on our STLiveline, live from the NATO summit. Good evening Mister President. GB: LET FREEDOM RING! CC: Yes, Mister President. Why did the handover happen in secret and ahead of schedule? GB: I, uhh, don’t know all the details. This is an Iraqi call, for the free Iraqi people. Look, you can say what you want, but this is a good thing, for the United States, their neighbors, Europe, and the C O A L I T I O N OF THE W I L L I N G from one end of this great land to the other. It’s a great day for F R E E D O M and freedom loving people all over the world and, uhh, …uhh, uhm,… America. CC: What is different now in Iraq? GB: Look, Iraq is S O V E R N. It’s a sovereign N A T I O N now. They have Sovernininty and that’s a good thing for the Iraqi people. CC: But, Mister President, day in and day out, what will be different for the Iraqi people. GB: They have their own people in charge. CC: So, if there is a disturbance the Iraqi security forces will… GB: That’s right. Exactly. Iraqi forces will QUELL THE DISTURBANCE. And our 50.000 some odd troops will ASSIST THEM. CC: What is our status in the new Iraq? GB: We are LIBERATE TORS who have been INVITED to stay… for 3 to 10 years, by the provisional GOVERNMENT of Iraq. It’s their idea for us TO STAY. We have been I N V I T E D to stay… by the FREE PEE POLL OF IRAQ. CC: But we no longer are in charge of the country, it is completely in their hands. GB: Yeah, some things, yeah, for the most part, but IT IS A GOOD... uhh,... uhh... THING. We have less terror now then they did before. WE have, uh, uh, uhm... LIBERATED TERROR in the region and it’s a um, um, uh,… GOOD… THING. CC: Thank you for being with us today, President George Bush. GB: LET FREEDOM…(uhh)... SOUND. CC: And thank you for bieng with us. For now, this is Connie Chung in New York. See you soon. ST IS! Read/Post Comments (2) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
