Here, ,from the campus of Miami University, is Connie Chung. CC: Good evening from Florida. The first Presidential debate is now history. The subject was foreign policy, and the winner, by almost any measure, is John Kerry. Kerry seemed at ease, in command, President Bush was twitching, stumbling, and defensive. Joining me now is the man who played the President in the movie “Independence Day”, Bill Pullman. Do you agree with me that Kerry won this debate, Bill? BP: Not only do I agree, but so do the pundits and the American people. In a CBS poll of 200 undecided voters, Kerry wins with 56%. An NBC poll of 6 undecided voters in Ohio, Kerry wins the debate 6 to 0. On a Fox News panel of experts, Kerry wins the debate (but these debates don’t make any difference anyway). In an ABC poll of the spin room, where partisans from both sides pitch their candidates: Kerry wins. And on and on. On CBS John Mc Cain says he agreed with several points Kerry made, but agreed more with the president. Partisans like robots like Karen Hughes, still thought the President did well. John Kerry seemed to be the candidate the Democrats have wanted all along and haven’t gotten till tonight. CC: You know what amazed me is that this debate was about foreign policy, in some substance, and that, for the first time in years, these two men are decidedly different on what to do in Iraq. BP: Yes Connie, Bush seems to think that this war is the right war and ignoring international alliances is the right way to go. Kerry thinks from the military on the ground, particularly to diplomacy, that we are now not trusted and must be changed. These two have major differences. CC: More polls will be revealed in the next few days, but as of tonight it looks like a slam dunk by the man who wants to be President, John Kerry. My God, if Fox News admits it, Britt Hume agreed. That hump. Then it must be true. We’ll have more. And more on the volcano’s and hurricanes that will destroy us as Breaking News happens. This is Connie Chung for Bill Pullman saying Be seeing you.
