The Third Presidential Debate

Here, from the campus of Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona, is ST senior debate correspondent, Connie Chung.

CC: Good evening. The Presidential debate here in Tempe, Arizona just concluded and a serious, almost somber John Kerry went into to the ring with a President who tried to be glib and cute tonight. to horrible effect. Neither man seemed to do himself as much good as he could have tonight.
Here to share his thoughts tonight is the man who played the president in the movie “Independence Day”, Bill Pullman. Bill, who won tonight?

BP: Well Connie, the view from the spin room is very intense, the Kerry people seem generally happiest here with a lot of “three for three” talk. Some of the Bush people seem to be concerned about the President’s handling of the flu shot question. That may have been a fumble.

CC: Yes that was a lame response and the moment when he tried to be funny about taking network news information and quoting it. Awful. He reminded me of Spiro Agnew.

BP: In the post debate analysis, in a CBS quick poll: Kerry wins 39 to 36 per cent for President Bush. ABC: 42% Kerry, 41% Bush. NBC and the undecided panel of six voters: 3 for Bush, 2 for Kerry, 1 undecided. A CNN polling of undecided voters: Kerry got 10, Bush 7, undecided 7. On Fox with a panel of four “experts”; all four went with Bush. Bush 4, Kerry 0.

CC: So it still seems razor thin close, Bill.

BP: Yeah, both played to their base and played it safe. I don’t think very many of the 18% of the electret made up their minds.

CC: Well I did, good night.

ST IS!
