Moments ago black smoke emanated from the Sistine Chapel smokestack. That means the first vote in the Papal election has taken place at just after 7 pm Vatican time and no new Pope has been elected. Jim Farris joins me now here in the Vatican. Jim ![]() JF: That’s right Connie, the 115 Cardinals have probably narrowed the field a bit, maybe to ten candidates, but no decision now. ![]() CC: Now what Jim? ![]() JF: The Cardinals will, in all probability, have dinner, discuss the days events among themselves, and probably retire for the night and vote again tomorrow. ![]() CC: So, what’s the final word at this time Jim? ![]() JF: Well our Papal scoreboard shows Cardinals 115 – Pope 0. Connie. ![]() CC: Alright. We will have more breaking news as it happens. For now I’m Connie Chung for Jim Farris in Vatican City. Be seeing you. ST IS!!! Black smoke!!!
