A Bit of Randomness

Most people go through life dreading they'll have a traumatic experience. Freaks were born with their trauma. They've already passed their test in life. They're aristocrats. --Diane Arbus

Swinging Arms & Other Musings

In the How-Old-Am-I??? category: yesterday, while driving around, I saw a license plate that read, "LUV CR". The editor that lives in my head (and is occasionally on duty) first interpreted it as "LUV Carriage-Return" (and after that I stopped wondering what ir really could mean). Ummm... huh? When was the last freakin' time I used a manual typewriter? Why on earth would I immediately jump to that interpretation of CR? Weird...

While "preparing" for the book group tonight (the first one I'm attending) I realized that aside from this library's group and several that take place on the east side, there really aren't any other face to face groups. I find this insanely disturbing.

A few years ago, several friends had the same thought and decided to create a round robin sort of group with each member picking a book and taking the lead for that session. However, after two meetings, it fell apart. I'm still not certain if what all the reasons were.

Then, maybe a year or so ago, I started a list of books that I would want to read for a group; I had intended to start my own. However, that never manifested. But now, out of the need to have a social life and also read new and interesting books, I'm thinking I may start a group. I just need to figure out the details. This may take awhile...

The adage of "your right to swing your arm stops at my face" came up yesterday. And that led to the discussion of personal responsibilty in conversation; whether or not you are responsible for how your comments are received. We came to agreement that once you know that X is offensive, you are responsible for not intentionally offending your listener. The are, however, occasions when offensiveness is actually necessary to make a point. (Yes, this is a quicky summing up...)

Pandora just cannot seem to come up with any songs that I think are similar to Tom's Diner. All their suggestions were slow and somber. I really just wanted a few other nifty songs with a nifty cool upbeat pace. Bleah.

How many times does one need to tell the SAME DAMN SURVEY TAKER that the time s/he is calling evey night is STILL dinner time?? Oy!

You might think that waking up to a crib full of wet linens and such because the baby's diaper leaked *everywhere* would set you up for a rotten day. However, it actually woke me up (better than coffee, even) and Dylan and I ended up having a wonderful morning.

Speaking of our morning, Dylan had previously discovered that markers can link together - cap to bottom. So today, when we were using crayons, she kept trying to link them together and got very cranky that they wouldn't. Just another sign of her increasing reasoning skills. Whoot!

:^)
