Hauling Case

There's no chance of my writing anything interesting today. My brain is so fried I'm actually going to make a diary entry. I've been hauling case ever since I got up this morning. Legal cases, that is.

Sunday's the best for legal writing. No interruptions. Maybe because the editors I'm working for either aren't working or figure their contractors aren't. Not that email interruptions -- the only kind I get working at home online -- are all that disturbing but I became sensitized to interruptions when I worked in-house.

I never got used to working around the endless procession of memos and meetings, most of which seemed designed mainly to draw attention to someone, never mind the work we were all supposed to be doing. Oh man, I remember it too well. Unless you had the job number for "planning" you were no one and you weren't really even on the way to being someone until you had authorization to use the "meeting" number and all the power that implied.

Now I'm self-employed. Free of the tyranny of the time card. And I love working on Sundays. Talk about power!
