Mary Talks

Mary recently spoke with Alan Bishop who maintains the Criminal History website. Mary talks about the John the Eunuch mysteries and offers writing tips, among other things. She also describes our routine:

The ordinary working day at Casa Maywrite is long and, depending on the work in hand, can be up to twelve hours. We work at home and often don't get Sunday off - a common fate for the self-employed! Generally speaking the work day begins as soon as a mug of Satan's brew has been consumed after getting up and goes on, with breaks for meals or trips to the post office or whatever, until it's time to hit the sack. On the other hand, the beauty of this arrangement is that by setting one's own hours and working a longer day, you can get time off as needed for other things. Being a “night owl” my favourite time for writing fiction is late at night or early in the morning – our hours tend to be the reverse of most people's, in that we get up late and work late.
