Wow. Can I just say it again? Wow. What a fucking movie. I watched the newly released Apocalypse Now in full IMAX glory last night and Wow, what a movie. I'd never seen it before. Mostly because I think I've been avoiding war-flix, specifically Vietnam war flix. I watched part of "Full Metal Jacket" when I was pretty young and was traumatized by it for years. Then, someone gave me the Stanley Kubrick collection awhile back and I was able to get over my earlier... attitude(?) towards that type of movie. By "that type" I mean *the* Vietnam war movie. I don't know, there's something about the really good ones that... gets to me. Maybe it's the nod to how fucked up people can be, or how fucked up they can *get* after a time. The horror of war, the cruelty of man, [like a length of wire, twist a man one way, then twist back]... It feels cliché to talk about it this way. War is bad, mmmm'k? Its not that I don't "get it" I understand that war is something that happens to our societies. Its territory protecting on several different levels. What I don't understand is the need to revert to it at a moments notice. "Five million years of evolution and that's the best you can do?" [quote Lenny Nero from Strange Days] Maybe Northern California is getting to me... As my father puts it, "You're becoming all liberal on me!" Maybe so... Oh well. As the Discordians of the world say... When in doubt, fuck it. When not in doubt, get in doubt. All I really wanted to say is "Apocalypse Now - Redux" is a damn fine film. I never, ever, ever, ever *need* to see it again. Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
