Tip of the Iceburg

You always say, bring you street-life, bring you real-life, that one man's desperate and mundane existance is another man's... techni-color. [[strange days]]

it was lying there on a blanket...

woot! just got back from the faboo-less las vegas, nv. it was a whirlwind of greasy food, minimal (at times) gambling, winter desert sun, drinks, winning money, losing money, and entirely too much of the MGM grand. don't get me wrong, it's not a bad hotel, it's just garish, poorly designed, and all of the other things that you hate about a vegas casino.

anyway. just a quick recap. got in friday early evening. headed over to the room, dropped off stuff and chilled for a bit. found out some final bad news about brian and business school. went over to the superswank pad and hung out with some of the turning-30 folks. went to this wok/sushi-bar place for dinner in awhile. had lots of tasty foods. tiger prawns with thai chili and lime, singapore curry rice noodles (with tiny shrimp and various veggie bits), and this fried rice with spicy chicken satay. it was yummy. mmm... i was beat. got up for yoga at 6 in the am, so i headed off to the room to catch some shut eye. brian walked me up, but went back down to gamble. i passed out fairly soundly until brian got back, but didn't get up until morning. YAY. it pleases me to sleep through the night.

mmm. got out of bed around 10:30-ish saturday morning to the news about the shuttle. got ready, went down in search of coffee. found not *one* but *two* starbucks in MGMLand. *shrug* ran into andrew and belinda on our way to the pool. found them again in the resturant for brunch. after brunch-ness, we went upstairs and got ready for poolside lounging. ended up hanging around for a few hours, then back to the swanky pad. the girls (rachel, belinda, and i) went to get our nails done while the boys (aaron, jason, andrew, brian) went to watch the cal/arizona game. it was my first time ever getting a pedicure - amusing, but nothing really spectacular. got together for dinner at this seafood/steak joint in the Rio (only time we really left MGMLand until today). then back to the swankroom for more drinks and festivities. more gambling and free drinks. headed up to bed around 2 or 2:30.

um, got up in sort of a grumpy mood. didn't really sleep all that well. did breakfast over the los angeles times, then hung out with the late-risers while they ate at the american (in the new york, new york hotel). then headed off to the airport again.

got back a bit ago and have just been sitting around decompressing. as i'm writing all this down, i feel like i'm somehow missing something - it feels like i did so much more... but then again, in vegas, getting anyone anywhere in a reasonable amount of a time is an exercise in futility. it's like trying to herd kittens across country using dry cat food and turtles. *sigh*

oh well. back for now. i'll be heading off to vegas again in a few weeks...

damned phish for not scheduling their show's around jason, andrew, and aaron's birthdays...
